The Block: Triple Threat 2015

Another series of The Block AUS 2015 has started up and this year, a whole new threat has arisen.

Currently trading it's individual character and sleepy posture for a new fashion statement in building design, is the suburb of South Yarra in Melbourne, Victoria.
Plain concrete or basic grey plaster rendered buildings teamed with trimmings and detailing of 'manor black' have become the 'new black', although it's not quite Nero!

Four kilometres south-east of Melburne's CBD centred on Collins Street, Chapel Street and Toorak Road, South Yarra has been the place for trendy shopping, fabulous eateries and prestigious residential addresses for years.

All of that is changing rapidly.

The Block reality DIY renovating TV show, which started Tuesday 27th January, 2015 on Channel Nine, moved into the neighbourhood over the last year. No doubt loyal fans will be glued to their sets, learning how to do it for themselves when the timing is right.

So look away if you don't want a few spoilers...

The Block - Triple Threat will gradually reveal how contestants (plus tradies) transformed a tired 'block' of symmetrically disposed modern cream brick and stained timber detailed apartments into four three-storey asymmetrically disposed hard-edged stylish townhouses.

Just like other architects all over the neighbourhood at the moment, the designers at The Block have embraced the characteristics of asymmetry, at least on the façade.

Distinctly unsettling for some, it usually represents disorder - rather than 'symmetry', which reflects order, logic, calm, harmony and ease of living.

The apartments in their conversion to houses in town have been concrete rendered, had black box-frame windows inserted with black vertical louvered screens added on select windows.

There is a small garden out the front and up the side it's easy to see a wall of plants happening.

Now building The Block is just about at an end with the 'instant garden' in place, the generally friendly residents of the normally quiet, fairly unassuming Darling Street, South Yarra are no doubt glad to see the departure of tradies, trucks, heavy equipment plus drone and camera crews that have encroached on their lives.

PANIC...

Ah! Why is the world spinning out of control???

A few months ago, I went to Spain on a school trip. On this trip, I found myself in a stressful situation. I was in my boyfriend's (of the time) room, with a teacher bashing down the door looking for me. I was shoved into the bathroom, lights switched off (I have a fear of the dark) and the door locked behind me. I heard my ex-boyfriend talking to the teacher and I felt the teacher reach for the door handle. At this point in time, I knew I had to do something. We weren't allowed to be in the guys rooms and I didn't feel safe. Suddenly my heartbeat quickened and I started to hyperventilate. Eventually my eyes slammed shut and I hit my head on the door and collapsed. In my ming, I had a sort of flashback to 2 years ago when I was walking across a road. Then, a car came speeding down the road and my friend pulled me back although, in my flashback the car just hit me. And that's when I remember waking up to water being splashed on my face.

After that bad experience, I've been panic-y and nervous but, haven't reacted like that since then.

I thought you guys might like to know that you aren't alone.

Have you experienced the same thing?

Don't worry, you aren't alone :)

Book Review: Girl Online By Zoe Sugg (Zoella)

The book Girl Online is written by Zoe Sugg (Zoella on YouTube) and published by Puffin Books.
BLURB:

Penny has a secret.

Under the alias Girl Online, she blogs about school dramas, boys, her mad, whirlwind family - and the panic attacks she's suffered from lately. When things go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets the gorgeous, guitar-strumming Noah. Suddenly Penny is falling in love - and capturing every moment of it on her blog.

But Noah has a secret too. One that threatens to ruin Penny's cover - and her closest friendship - forever.
REVIEW:
This book is full of twists and turns. An expected bombshell is dropped at the end and I don't want to tell you the end result (NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS, PLEASE!). For her first novel, Zoella captures the heart and minds of the reader and makes the audience pay attention and learn the important moral to the story - no matter how bad things look, it will get better. Going through what she has, Zoella's personal experiences help to create a believable storyline and small details that you will remember forever. The characters are developed well and it is obvious that Zoe had a lot of time to plan the plot. The settings are both relevant to Zoe's old and new life. Not only is it metaphorical but, it is also literal. Anything can happen when you do things that you don't normally indulge in.
RATING: 4 1/2 stars.

Typo Haul!

So, I was at Westfield this afternoon and stopped off in Typo. Somehow it kind of turned into a shopping spree and I thought I'd share it with you.

TYPO: Taylor Bag in Frankie Blue.
This satchel type bag has 1 big pocket and 2 smaller pockets with a zipper pocket on the inside. The blue mint colour stands out. It can hold a number of items and has a fake leather feel to it. The downside is that when it is overfilled it seems to bulge a little.

Rating: 4 stars.

INSIDE WE HAVE...
NOKIA: Blue Brick (cerca 1960)
 So...yeah...that's my phone...

LONDON PURSE: Thanks to a Friend.
My new purse to remind me of my heritage.

TYPO: Travel Eye Mask.
The free gift I got with my Taylor Bag (Thanks Typo <3).

TYPO: School Books.
Even if I bought this before I went to school this year, it still counts as a part of my Typo haul...right?

TYPO: Light Blue Spotted Makeup Bag.
Also from Typo, this cute make-up bag could also double-up as a pencil case.

MIXED BRANDS: The Contents of My Make-up Bag.
From Spain to London to right here in Brisbane.
BOJOIS: Blush and Powder Brush.
Pretty good quality and a definite must have for an on-the-go make-up kit.

COLLECTION: Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder.
Long name, long lasting.

PETER COLB PHARMACY: Compact Mirror.
From my local pharmacy, a small compact mirror is an essential for a girl on the go, especially one with braces.

MAYBELLINE: The Falsies Volum' Express Mascara.
Best Mascara I own. Mascara is definitely a must-have for me.

PANDORA: Unforgettable Moments in Peach.
This was given to me as a free gift when I bought my first Pandora bracelet (Thanks Pandora <3).

DAISO: Light Concealer.
Cheap concealer I bought on sale at a cheap Asian shop at my local shopping centre.

I hope you enjoyed my Typo Haul/What's in my bag blog.
